Documents related to the Oak Valley Lane paving project

There are just three items that clarify our situation. You can click on links below to view small (one-page) PDF files. It is recommended that you view and review them all.

Document 1

NC DOT Letter

This states requirements and timetable for repairs that will qualify us for state maintenance. Essentially if we perform the “punchlist” of items, the road would be cared for by the state in the future including inclusion in FULL neighborhood repaving project in the next few years. Supposedly it’s already on the calendar. It would also include regular mowing of the road shoulders and plowing of snow…if we ever get snow again.

State approved paving contractors

We received ONE bid for the work, but we’ve been advised by the DOT that ours is such a small job that very few of the approved companies would undertake it. This appears to be true. Other contractors we reached out to echoed that and said that they would NOT be interested in application of AST only.

The contractor list is provided just in case there is anyone who wishes to pursue additional quotes. Perhaps someone has an inroad (pardon the pun) to one of the other companies listed and available time to obtain more quotes. However, we are working against the clock to nail down a contractor and get the work done in order to meet the state’s timetable. Let it be clearly stated that not every company that does paving is qualified. Any additional quotes must come from this list.

REVISED 2-26-2024

If you haven’t already done so, you should to to this page of this website.

To their credit, Hunt’s Paving and Contracting out of Thomasville, NC promptly responded to our RFQ, came to the site to measure and examine all repair areas, and followed up with a firm quote. They took us seriously and acted professionally. Originally the quote we received was $17,500, but it included two coats of AST. Now the AST requirement has been reduced to one coat, and our revised quotation for repairs that will satisfy the state has decreased to $13,500.

IF YOU FEEL STRONGLY ABOUT GETTING MORE QUOTES FROM THE STATE-APPROVED LIST, PLEASE CONTACT KENT or HARRELL IMMEDIATELY. And in doing so you’ll be volunteering to get those quotes.
