If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. If it is broke, better to fix it sooner rather than later.

If you are reading this, chances are good that you live in Townsend Forest, an unincorporated subdivision in Guilford County, North Carolina. We’ve lived here almost 40 years, and we love it. We love its beauty. We love its spacious lots that give us privacy yet regular contact with wonderful neighbors. We love its variety of housing styles and just as much the variety of people: young and old; different races, ethnicities and nationalities; different interests. We love the relative safety and seclusion afforded by Lake Townsend and its buffer zones. We like that our children can enjoy carefree play and attend quality schools. We like being able to stroll the roads on cool mornings or late afternoons without having to dodge a racetrack of cars. It is without hesitation that we state that we’ve never known anyone now or in the past who found cause to willingly leave our coveted paradise. Quite the contrary. We’ve had numerable instances where we’ve been approached by folks wondering if we know who owns a certain lot or home and might wish to sell. Our neighborhood is a place of great envy!

But as idyllic as it is, there is a purpose behind this website and an issue we need to address. It’s a relatively short section of Oak Valley Ln. which lies between Oak Valley Ct. and French Drive. This segment falls outside of NC DOT state maintenance, and as a result its disrepair now is the cause of both visual and safety concerns. This problem has developed over a long period of time for reasons you can learn by reading the contents of this website. There is also a once-and-forever fix at hand that while not painless is at least well-defined and permanent. If we are bold enough to address and fix these road issues now, the stretch in question will be accepted into the state maintenance system and receive perpetual care.

This site brings together lots of information and resources so that you can know what’s gone on in the past and what is before us for a short window of time to correct this issue. It is our hope that you will give your attention and support to this cause to effect a change to make a wonderful place even better for generations to come. There is a cost, and that cost and our goal is $13,500. For that, we can get the road brought up-to-spec by having the worst damaged areas excavated and refilled. After the base is solid, one HEAVY coat of “AST” (tar and gravel as a binder) will be applied and rolled. It will honestly be a bit messy for a while, but this is a means to an end. By doing this, then the state will recognize the road as meeting all standards, and forever it will fall under state maintenance.
